Dear Donors and sponsors,Good morning and how are you in the other side of the world!Pupils, parents , teachers and I are fine and doing well. We have been given a longer holiday due to the national census and statistics exercise taking place today till next week. The other thing to inform you is that we are going to have our pupils of age 8-10 in grade three being assessed by the government nationwide from 16-20 September. Some schools were denied the opportunity to have this assessment in their learning centres but for us we were lucky and so two small schools will have to bring their pupils to our learning centre for this exercise. It was alot of work from July with the governments officials to organize activities for school to market cleanup and trainings all through. Luckily we are done and God willing the officers will join us on 16-20 September.I want to thank you once more for being a supportive team from United Kingdom and Germany, making so many things a success in this learning institution and wish to sacrifice my time , energy and the little resources we have to meet our goal. There are many changes too brought by the government that are keeping all teachers on toes but I am also concerned and embracing the changes in pupils new curriculum so as to meet the government requirements.I am so happy for coming together with a common idea of development in the school to make the school be of the required standards. Am praying that God Almighty to bless you , give you all strength and good health. Thanks alot and have a nice weekend.

This is an email sent from the school in Kenya by Margaret, the headmistress in August 2019. We are very impressed by the incredible effort made by Margaret to make the school so successful and very grateful for her dedication.

School Update, 8/11/2018

Mike has just returned from a visit to the Ebenezer Rescue Scool.  He was very pleased to see so many children learning in their classrooms and all looking very happy. The school site looked lovely with its mature trees and flowering shrubs.

There are now 86 children attending the school regularly and of these 39% are orphans or needy children. Margaret’s vision is to rescue these children, who are not  attending a school due to extreme poverty or negligence of parents and to make sure that parents or guardians understand the importance of education. She wants to eliminate the stigma caused by by a lack of education and to place these children in a friendly environment where they are safe and happy with a sense of belonging.  Margaret also wants to eliminate illiteracy in the community and she wants the children to realise their potential and have hope for the future.

There are seven classrooms with a teacher for each one.  The school site also has a toilet block, a kitchen and a well. This provides safe drinking water for the children and there is a tap just outside the school gate, providing water for the local community at a small cost!

We are very grateful to our sponsors, who donate money every month. This is sent to Margaret and it helps her with the running costs of the school. We are also pleased to have donations provided by our German friends, Rene and Beate. They have been visiting the school regularly over the last few years and have been supporting the school with donations from their friends. They were there at the same time as Mike. Beate had been there for a few months doing some voluntary teaching.

Although the school is progressing well there is always a need for more funds.  The building needs ongoing repairs and Margaret would like to have some play equipment in the school grounds. If you are interested in supporting the school please contact us.

School Trip

The children went on a trip to Mombasa and visited Fort Jesus and Mamba Village.

Competitions!

Recently the children have enjoyed taking part in a football tournament against other schools in the area and a dance festival wearing traditional costumes. They also held a netball competition with a trophy to be presented to the winning class. They love to dress up in colourful costumes. The money to pay for these costumes was donated by Judy.

Mangoes

The mangoes came from a tree in the school grounds.  The children enjoyed eating them.

Games Day at Ebenezer Rescue School

The children are having fun learning how to high jump like their teachers. They are queueing for lunch at the kitchen.
